Fitness: Healthy Living As A Habit

There are so many words that are conjured up when we think of fitness. Healthy, in shape and lifestyle come to mind immediately. There is another word that needs to be there as well: Habit. Fitness and healthy living are not something that you decide to do for a weekend. They are something you do for life.

Some folks are lucky in that from the time they were very young, they lived a life of fitness and healthy choices. Being healthy for them as an adult comes naturally because it is something that they have done their whole lives. For the rest of us, choosing fitness as a lifestyle is a conscious decision that has required a lot of thought and effort on our part. Some of us will struggle with how to accomplish this healthy lifestyle for nearly our whole lives.

A lifestyle change requires a lot of effort. Consider the word, lifestyle. The style of your life. Generally it’s not something that you can just change overnight. It’s going to take some effort on your part. You will be making a lot of decisions about what to eat, what kinds of exercises to do, which health club to join and what your daily routine will include. When your goal is fitness, healthy lifestyle choices will need become habits.

A habit seems to be a double edged sword. For things that are not necessarily good for us, habits seem to come easy. Stopping by the coffee shop for that latte every morning required seemingly no effort at all. Smoking became a habit in a snap. Healthy choices can become a habit too, it’s just a matter of choice and motivation. Read the rest of this entry »

Dieting Tips for Fast Weight Loss

When it comes to our bodies, one thing that we are particular with is the shape in which we are in. Regardless of natural stature, we are always conscious of keeping fit and being in shape, depending on how much time we want to spend on the ‘shape’ that we as individuals set as goals. However, in the midst of our daily lives, we tend to lose track of that healthy path we once laid out; the one that contained the workout times and healthy eating patterns.

One major issue is the jobs we tend to have; sitting in front of a desk for hours on end and only getting up to stretch every now and then. With such jobs, it is no surprise that we sometimes end up going for fast foods to quickly quench the hunger and desire that develops while working. With this comes one major problem; weight gain. Everyone would say that the way to losing weight is simple; you eat less and you exercise more. But that sounds much easier than actually practicing it. Irrespective of that, there are people who have succeeded in losing weight. There are common healthy dieting tips to take, as listed below:

Drinking lots of water and calorie-free beverages

It is common for people to sometimes confuse thirst with hunger, ending up eating more when all that is needed is a glass of water. However, if plain water is not your thing, adding ‘citrus or a splash of juice, or brew infused teas like mango or peach, which have lots of flavor but no calories’, according to Cynthia Sass, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, can make it more appealing.

Eat when you’re really hungry

Whenever the urge to eat something comes along, it’s best to consider if you’re really hungry or if it’s just a craving that is the cause. The stomach is about the size of your fist, meaning about a handful of food is enough to comfortably fill it up. Read the rest of this entry »

Men and Sexual Health – Visiting the Local GUM Clinic

Sexual health is just as important as any other type of health care so if you suspect something may be wrong then do visit your GP or local clinic.

Gum Clinic Visit

GUM clinics (genitourinary medicine) previously called STD or STI clinics are usually located at general hospitals. Some have appointments and others have drop in clinics so you can just turn up. Most offer both services depending on the day of the week you go.

When you go to a sexual health clinic, you’ll be asked for your name and contact details. You don’t have to give your real name if you don’t want to. Your GP won’t be told of your visit without your permission and all information is confidential.

If you have tests and the results aren’t available during your visit, the clinic will need to contact you later, so give them the correct contact details. They will ask you how you wish to receive your results: usually over the phone, in a text or in an unmarked letter. They may also ask if it is OK to leave an answer phone message or not.

Answering some questions

A big concern for many people is the issue of confidentiality.GUM Clinics are critically aware of this, and take every step to protect your privacy. All material relating to your visit is totally confidential and will never be made available to anybody who shouldn’t see it. If you’d prefer, you don’t even have to give your name.

You will see a doctor or a nurse, and they’ll ask you about your medical and sexual history. Be prepared to answer questions about your sex life, including:

when you last had sex

whether you have had unprotected sex

whether you have any symptoms

why you think you might have an infection

The staff have seen it all and heard it all before, so be honest! Being honest is the best way they can help you. The doctors and nurses are not judgmental in any way so give it to them straight and they always treat you with respect. Read the rest of this entry »
